About the owners

Rachel Newman's dream has always been to work with animals. Growing up in Port Washington, NY she continually had a house full of pets. Her first job was at her local veterinarian clinic from where she would bring home numerous abandoned animals. This has spawned a 20 year journey of working with animals in various facets. Prior to opening A Walk in the Park, Rachel was a sales rep in the telecom industry and then followed her heart to work as a manager at a pet care facility in Arlington, VA. Rachel is a graduate of the University of Arizona where she received a BA in Psychology. She lives with her husband Jeff, their two sons, their coon hound mix and one goldfish.

Jolie Brown, Rachel's sister-in-law, brings to the business a decade of marketing experience. After working with big companies and not-for-profits, she decided to become an independent marketing consultant. Jolie grew up in Allentown, PA and met her husband Daniel at the University of Michigan where she received her BA in Psychology. After completing her MBA program at The University of Miami, she settled down in Bethesda, MD where she currently resides with her husband Daniel, their two children their Irish Terrier Murphy and Chihuahua Diva.

About our office manager

Ashley Navarra grew up in Marietta, Georgia where animals were always a part of her life and a part of the family. She surrounded herself with a multitude of furry friends, including rabbits, hamsters, chinchillas, dogs and cats. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Biology and found herself pursuing jobs involving animals. She gained experience in animals conservation research working at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and has worked in the veterinary field for over 10 years. She feels the most rewarding aspect of working with animals is the unwavering display of loyalty and love. In her free time, she enjoys painting and refinishing old furniture. She currently resides in Silver Spring, MD with her flat coat retriever mix "Jazz."
